Program Schedule

Week 1: We will introduce the concept of learning theory and how it applies in real life. We will emphasize that learning theory is universal and that it works for ALL animals, including for human behavior, and we will use dogs as our model system. Kids will get the opportunity to directly apply these theories and effect real behavior change in a small group of friendly dogs.

Week 2: We will revisit the concept of learning theory and apply it in more advanced ways again using dogs as our model. Kids will get the opportunity to practice formal obedience exercises and explore the different dog sport opportunities.

Week 3: We will discuss the concept of different motivators and play drive in dogs and how kids can use them in dog sports. Kids will be introduced to Schutzhund as a sport that can be done in a safe and fun manner, and we will discuss how kids can pursue these sports further.

Week 4: We will introduce kids to opportunities in veterinary medicine and demonstrate how to collect basic physical exam parameters.
